About the Pinks

Started in 2005, The Pink Snowball Film Awards is a night in October that our community looks forward to all year long.  It is an extravagant and memorable event that celebrates films made by young people and budding amateur filmmakers in our region. Shortlisted filmmakers are also treated a ride to the Machynlleth Tabernacle in a pink limousine, where they then attend the premiere of their own films! Young people, parents, teachers and the villagers alike are always surprised by the quality of the films that appear on the big screen and the event has a growing reputation as one of the best young people’s film festivals in Wales.

Following the awards night, there is also a selection of film evenings, which provide an entertaining and educational outlook into different cultures and film genres.  We try and show films from all over the world and a number of independent films that may not yet have been released in the UK.  The evenings are held in a variety of comfortable and popular locations all over the area including cafes, pubs and restaurants, so a pleasant sociable evening is always guaranteed.

To date, the festival has proven to be very successful with films made for the Pinks going on to win numerous awards of the national film festival circuit as well as providing an inspiration for a significant number of young people in our area to go on and study film at University.

The event is placed over the October half term so that local people and people visiting the area can take part in filmmaking workshops, talks by professionals and access a selection of rare and specialist film showings. Last year we expanded the festival so that the whole of October could be used as an opportunity to view, study and enjoy film locally. We work with a number of partner schools and community groups to draw people in. We believe that our festival contributes greatly to the development of a vibrant Welsh film culture and provides inspiration for young people in our area to think about the industry and seek out further opportunities to get involved in writing and producing films. There is a lack of provision in the area that FILM 15 and The Pink Snowball Film Awards addresses. The festival not only inspires a very mixed audience but also fosters a great local filmmaking spirit amongst young people families and community groups.

No matter how old you are, what experience you have we welcome all your films. This year there are a number of extra awards to win!
